Hello Everyone! It’s been a crazy couple of weeks and we are now very close to pre release and the actual launch of Star Wars Unlimited. I thought it would be fun to take a look at a way to upgrade the starter decks into a more complete deck list using only commons and uncommons found in booster packs. Will not be including any additional Rares or Legendaries in this exercise.

To start off let’s talk about the Darth Vader starter deck itself. Overall it does a very good job introducing new players to the game. It is fun and flavorful and gives you a good feel for some imperial synergy and how intimidating a deployed Darth Vader Can be. We do have some 1 ofs we would to boost to 3 ofs and some cards we probably will end up cutting completely.
What We are Keeping:
We will be keeping Death Star Stormtoopers and the Tie/LN fighters for sure since they are solid round 1 plays allowing us to leverage vader’s ability right away. We will also be keeping all 3 copies of super laser technician to help us ramp into our end game faster. Cell Block Guards have to stay since the are cheap decent sentinels for us. Snow Trooper Lieutenant we are going to keep around to help with some damage reach. We are keeping Admiral Motti to help us reset some bigger units to close the game. We can use vader’s ping ability to take out Motti to get the reset. We will be keeping both copies of Viper Probe Droid, Solid early turn play that lets us get some additional knowledge about our opponents deck. AT-ST and Gladiator Star Destroyers are staying also, they are really solid units in their respective arenas that are hard for our opponents to deal with. The one of Emperor Palpatine is staying in the deck as a great late game boss monster to compliment Darth Vader himself. The last card we will be keeping a full playset of is Darth Vader’s Lightsaber, playing this upgrade on Vader the round he deploys is super satisfying and terrifying for our opponents.

What are we adding?
Force Throw is a great option for some hand disruption + possible damage upside. Seasoned Shoretrooper is a really solid cheap body that can have some late game payoffs. Going to full playsets of Force Choke, Open Fire, and Overwhelming Barrage, these cards really solidify our ability to control the battlefield. Fifth Brother is an awesome early unit that swings way above his cost, plus he gives us access to payoffs on Force Throw and Force Choke. Ruthless Raider is an awesome 6 drop space unit with a lot of versatility so we are adding 2 of those to help our mid-late game push. Last thing we are adding is an additional Tie Advanced, not the flashiest unit but gives the rest of our deck additional value.
Now What?
Do Vader stuff. Play your Death Star Stormtoopers and Tie/Ln’s early to set up Vader Ping’s then make sure your Super Laser Tech gets back from his DJ gig on Coruscant and gets added as a resource early in the game. Use your units and removal as needed to control the board until you deploy Vader, then you wreck face and win! For the mulligan you want a 1 drop and the super laser tech ideally.
Thanks for stopping by! That is it for this one, be on the look out for the Luke Skywalker – Upgrading the Starter next week! We will see you in the Arenas!
