Hello again! I’m following up my Darth Vader Upgrade article with one about Luke Skywalker. This exercise is aimed to look at ways we can upgrade our Luke Skywalker starter deck using only commons and uncommons as options. A lot of changes are small, upping card counts for more consistency. So let’s jump right in.

The Luke deck again, does a really good job introducing players to the game. Lot’s of cool effects and abilities and paired against the Darth Vader deck there’s a lot of cool moments and interactions you can get from this. This deck really can show the power of shields and healing.
What We Are Keeping:
To start off we are keeping R2-D2 and C-3PO, together they create a nice combo for us to maintain card advantage and give us access to more options. We are keeping Luke’s lightsbaer as our only upgrade we are keeping, gives Luke a nice buff and shielding himself is extra nice. Can also be played on other units early. We are also keeping all 3 copies of Leia Organa, she is very flexible for us, early we can ready a resource to allow us play more stuff, and late game she can exhaust enemy units or leaders for us. We are going to keep the 3 Alliance X-Wings because we need presence in space and a 2/3 body for 2 is a good start. We are keeping all 3 fleet lieutenants, they have decent stats and their ability to give us some action compression + reach is really solid and can’t be overlooked. We are going to keep the 1 copy of Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Han Solo, all three of these are Rare’s but they function really well within the deck as late game plays. Playing Chewbacca on our six resource turn allows us to get double shields on Chewie and with his sentinel + ability to ready, we can get a lot of mileage out of him. Obi-Wan again has sentinel and his ability on defeat allows us to buff our Luke leader making him even stronger, Han is just really efficient at board control with him built in first strike-like ability.

What are we Adding?
We are going up to 3 copies of Restored ARC-170, it’s basically an alliance x wing with restore built in. Also adding two more copies of Yoda to get to 3, he’s an ok body but his restore 2 and his ability to draw a card on defeat are what’s really solid about Yoda. Adding in 3 copies of Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus, Ezra has good stats and his ability allows us to have access to more plays. Kanan’s ability adds even more healing capabilities onto a good stat unit with the potential to ruin our opponents plays off his discard. Going up to full playsets of the Rogue Operative and Wing Leader, Wing Leader can buff most of our stuff and the +2/+2 can put our units out of range of our opponents removal options, and Rogue Operative having Raid 2 and Saboteur keywords make it a very effective unit. Adding in 3 copies of takedown to give us more solid options for removal than what was in the starter. Again going up to 3 copies of Waylay for removal.
To Recap:
-1 2-1B Surgical Droid, -1 Rebel Pathfinder, -1 Cloud City Wing Guard, -3 Consular Security Force, -1 General Dodonna, -1 Snowspeeder, -1 Vigilant Honor Guards, 01 Auzituck Liberator Gunship, -1 System Patrol Craft, -2 Repair, -1 Shoot First, -2 Asteroid Sanctuary, -3 Vanquish, -1 Resilient
+3 Ezra Bridger +2 Rogue Operative, +2 Yoda, +2 Kanan Jarrus, +1 Restored ARC-170, +2 Wing Leader, +2 Corellian Freighter, +1 Surprise Strike, +1 Waylay, +3 Takedown
Now What?
Early look to under drop (play under your curve) to get shields off of Luke’s ability to really annoy your opponent. Look to play ARC-170 and Yoda early to get your healing online. Mid game look to play Kanan for more healing. Try to set up your deploy off of Chewbacca or Obi-Wan for a really strong late game. Luke is a Midrange deck so look to control board early and take good trades with your shielded units, then switch to a board control monster with Chewie, Obi-wan, and Luke.
Thanks for stopping by. That is it for this one, hope you enjoyed these short exercises on upgrading our starter decks without using any rares or legendaries. We will see you in the Arenas!
