Hello everyone. Mid January I had posted an article where I gave my set 1 meta predictions for Star Wars unlimited. You can find it here: https://spacearenagroundarena.com/2024/01/17/set-1-meta-predictions/

I thought now that we started having some store showdowns and some fairly well attended cash money tournaments I would revisit my set 1 predictions and see how accurate or inaccurate they are and grade myself accordingly. To do this I will give myself a score from 1-3, 1 being not close, like stormtroopers shooting someone with plot armor. 2 being fairly accurate like people shooting directly at lightsabers, 3 being force premonition accuracy.

1. Sabine will be everywhere

She is a beloved character and is really good. Aggro with direct dmg you can’t mitigate is strong on top of the fastest deploy and the ability to turn on one of the strongest kickers in the game (steadfast battalion) makes Sabine a very strong deck. With top finishes at lots of events I think I nailed this one with force premonition accuracy.

2. Boba Fett, also everywhere

Although people have figured out how to play control vs Boba Fett he is still one of the most played leaders. He’s also versatile being adequate in all 4 aspects, but being really good in command and cunning especially He’s incredibly strong into aggro decks and can cheat extra units into the game with his resource ability. Having access to 4 of the strongest cards in the game all in one deck is very hard to deal with. Again force premonition accuracy.

3. The best set 1 deck will include vigilance

Maybe the hottest of my takes originally, the blue decks have really risen in popularity in recent weeks. Blue/red villain appears to be the most oppressive deck in set 1. With Vader vigilance winning the largest event we had so far with the PPG $5K in Florida. I remember telling people red blue villain was the ultimate control deck and got blown off because everyone was so in love with ECL and OB, both really strong cards but not as near as oppressive as what red/blue villain has going on. The aggro decks can keep control in check which is nice but the closest thing to an NPE is red/blue villain.

Force attuned accuracy

4. Thrawn and IG stay in the binder

This one for the most part has been accurate. Thrawn games are the ultimate control games and take forever to play and that’s a big reason he isn’t as competitively viable. I don’t think Thrawn is bad at all he just takes a certain play style that doesn’t lend itself well to a BO3 format. IG is just IG.

Force premonition accuracy.

5. There will be 4 or 5 top tier decks

No disputing how good set 1 has been. There’s different flavors or control, ramp, tempo, aggro, mid range all over the place and the designers nailed the balance in set 1 overall. Sabine cunning, Sabine command, Han command, boba cunning, boba command, Iden aggression, Vader vigilance, krennic command could all win a 100+ event this weekend and nobody would be surprised. That is amazing and a huge credit to the game.

Force premonition accuracy.

Overall my set 1 predictions were pretty accurate and this has been a fun exercise I hope you all enjoyed as well. Thanks for stopping by, if you like what we do check us out on Patreon. We will see you in the arenas.
